Pratt and Skyline students, as well as others from the community have been taking advantage of holiday parties and the open doors at the center, and there are plans for a lot more fun coming in 2022. “We just really want to be more visible and more active with the kids in our community this year,” said Oller. Hitt recently provided the teen center with a brand new logo and updated look on the front of their building on Main Street. Currently serving on the board are Oller, Irvin, Brenda Ford, Avery Hitt and Katie Prieto. “It’s great how the three groups all work together in supervision of the kids and shuffle them from place to place.”Ĭarl Kissell, a para-educator with the USD 382 school district, serves as the main supervisor for teen center activities during open hours, but teen center board members are often on hand to help out. “Our local teens get out of school, go to the teen center to burn off some energy and hang out with friends, get dinner at 5 from Bread of Life, and then at 6 have a church meeting,” Irvin said. Irvin said the teen center helps fill the gap between the end of school and evening activities, as well as provides healthy meals and social activity. “The Bread of Life (my other project) serves a free dinner for the kids at the teen center, as well as for the community at the kitchen, and then Youth Core Ministry does a program at the Barron that starts at 6 p.m.” ![]() “We are open Monday through Friday, normally, but Tuesday nights are a big deal downtown for our youth,” said Kyle Irvin, teen center vice president. The facility features gaming systems, air hockey, pool, foosball, table tennis, karaoke, music room, basketball hoops and special programs. Main, it is a safe, fun place for students in 5th-12th grades to come and hang out after school until 6 p.m. All in a safe environment, under qualified supervision.įor those not familiar with the teen center, located in the 400-block of S. The weather turned out not to be a problem anyway, and teens celebrated a New-York style countdown on the front sidewalk, complete with poppers and confetti. We had 27 board games, PlayStation 3, 4, and 5, X-box, snacks. ![]() and partnered with Pratt RSVP to get the kids free rides home after midnight if they needed it. “We had a game night scheduled from 9:30 p.m. “We felt parents would likely be celebrating anyway and kids would need a place to go,” said Pratt Teen Center board member Britt Oller. WINTER weather predictions caused many to reconsider New Year’s Eve plans in Pratt this year, but Pratt Teen Center board members opened their door wide to bring in the new year and to welcome youth to a safe place to hang out on New Year’s Eve, and throughout the coming months. ![]()
